A lovely Brown Swiss cow, she was quietly resting on the hay and I was able to stand right next to her head. They have the most incredible short fur: rich, smooth and soft. The coat color ranges from a grey through brown and has russet, ochre, and beige gradations and markings at various body points. It is incredible to stand in the Cow Barn, which is a huge structure with at least another story of air space above you to the roof, and see row upon row of these large, docile creatures. (The rows look like stalls in a barn would look if you took the individual side walls out of each stall. The animals are next to each other and sometimes companionably groom each other with their long tongues.)
