journal page

I started the year with a lovely 8 inch square journal I'd made using Gutenberg. This paper has a little bit of a creamy, yellow cast with grey flecks. It has an interesting texture (which can be seen in the top right corner in the pencil sketch of the pear). I always have fun working with this paper.

At the beginning of 2008 I found that even my visual journal was becoming more private or alternately filled with work pages on paintings, classes I'm going to teach, and such, so there isn't a lot that can be posted. This is a natural ebb and flow for me, but it is always curious to me to see when it happens.

On this day, to get some sketching in I used red Ziller acrylic ink in a dip pen and then painted with gouache. I then scribbled with some colored pencils on top of the gouache. In the top right I used the soft Derwent Drawing pencils to create the pencil only pear.
