I am fascinated by lichen. Everything in Grand Marais that stays still for longer than five minutes either feeds a mushroom of some sort (lots of interesting types) or lichen. The colors of lichen are rich, varied, and unreal, and by that I mean, not what you would expect to see in nature. They look like some odd color of gel pen, or new iridescent color from Daniel Smith.
This lichen covered rock was outside the Hedstroms' cabin. When you sit low in the rocks the gray lake forms the entire backdrop. |
