When I'm teaching at Como Zoo I enjoy going over early to sketch. I've been spending a lot of time with the puffins lately. This carving is perhaps the least satisfying to me of the month's work. It got fussy in a very small space. The sketch worked much better. I think I would have been happier if I had focused only on the face in the small 1.5 x 1.5 inch block.
