I began to experiment with felt in 2005. I'm working with merino wool roving and adding silk and other fibers depending on the direction my experiments take me. The bowls on the right and left I call "earth cups." They seem like fragile, yet colorful bird's nests; light as a feather when you hold them. The center vessel has hand dyed silk ribbons knotted into it during the felting process.

I hope to continue the "earth cup" series with pieces which include other fibers and bead embellishment. My trip into felting was driven by the desire to include felt in my beadwork. I've come up with several approaches for felted beads, but have yet to find a good way to "finish" them and make them wear-proof, or wear-resistant. It's a fun exploration.

Dimensions: earth cups are 3 to 5 inches tall. Center vessel is approximately 5 x 6.5 inches.
