Still at the Bell Museum I decide to do some Sandhill Crane studies. The diorama is lovely, lush, and full, with a background painted by Jaques. Recently I have decided to note as much about the backgrounds as possible. Not all the dioramas will be making the move to the new site. The Jaques backgrounds are like master painting lessons. Clear, clean, with the painter's thoughts clearly on display, no fussy afterthoughts. The pen sketch at the far right of this spread contains some notes about how Jaques handled the feathers of one of his dancing birds.
